  • SHORE & TUNDRA BIRDS-Curlew, Bristle-thighed. 2013.5.23#1 This was the view I had hiking up the eastern shore of Cook Inlet to where I would have one of my greatest days of shooting shore birds in all my years living in Alaska. I got over four hours of shooting the rare Bristle-thighed Curlews with a bonus uncommon Marbled Godwit, Whimbrels, two species of Plovers, Short-Billed Dowitchers, Turnstones, Dunlins, Red-necked Phalaropes, Yellowlegs, Sandhill Cranes, and five species of Sandpipers. And didn't have another photographer show up the whole time I was there. And to top it off, I got to talk with my Granddaughter in Pennsylvania on her Birthday while I was surrounded by all the birds.
  • SHORE & TUNDRA BIRDS-Curlew, Bristle-thighed. 2013.5.23#100.5. A little soft but had to pan on this running bird that was trying to keep another curlew from stealing the Helmet Crab he just found in the strand line. Cook Inlet near Anchor River Alaska.
  • SHORE & TUNDRA BIRDS-Curlew, Bristle-thighed. 2013.5.23#178.4. I got to photograph these rare Curlews probing the strand line for about four hours. The majority of what they kept showing me were these tiny tube worms. Eastern Cook Inlet near Anchor River Alaska.

  • SHORE & TUNDRA BIRDS-Curlew, Bristle-thighed 2013.5.23#079. Trying to figure out what to do with the Helmet crab. The curlew has found the crab in a large soft mass of Kelp. I thought that maybe he couldn't break it on rocks like he normally would, but it was brought to my attention by a biologist friend it was probably an exoskeleton and the reason for the lack of interest. Cook Inlet, South Central Alaska.
