M-2016.9.19#214. An unusually wide antlered bull. Eight mile, Denali Park Alaska.

  • M-2016.9.18#105.3. This bull never paid any attention to me following his cow. He was my favorite bull of all time. What an eventful day this was. I found him beyond the closed area tending a cow in heavy timber. When she took off she brought him right past me. I could have touched them with a fishing rod. Denali Park Alaska.
  • M-2016.9.18#158.4.
  • M-2016.9.18#188.ba3. This great bull has left the seclusion of the dark taiga forest while tending a cow he has been with for the last several days. This is my first opportunity to capture images of him in the open. Denali Park, Alaska.

  • M-2016.10.1#027. This is the bull that recently ran the famous "Hook Bull" off and took over a group of cows near Kincaid Park . Little did I know that later this day I would end up right in the middle of the last real rut battle they had. The bull in this image gained the high ground and rolled the Hook bull right over in front of me. Hook left the area and ended up near downtown later this day. Anchorage Alaska.
  • M-2016.10.1#044. The moose that became the alpha bull of the Anchorage coastal forest for 2016. Anchorage Alaska.
  • M-2016.10.1#157. The "Hook" bull. This day was the only opportunity I ever got to shoot him. I came across him about half way out to the coast from a Kincaid Parking area on a brisk rut walk with Ryan Miller trailing him. I joined the pursuit, but somewhere in climbing the hills back to the area he was heading closer to the Kincaid ball fields I accidentally turned my auto focus off carrying my lens by the barrel. He never stopped and with the perspiration covering my eyes, I couldn't tell what happened till he slowed down. I got nothing but blurry memory's. At the end of the pursuit when he caught up with the bull that injured him previously, that was crazier then the jog he took us on. I was right in the middle of the fight that ensued. Sadly Hook lost again as you'll see in the end of this series of images. He was rolled over by the other bull and gave the submissive call. He moved almost all the way to downtown Anchorage before evening along the coastal strip.

  • M-2016.10.1#207. The "Hook" bull on the right and the other guy. Anchorage Alaska.
  • M-2016.10.1#209. This was like the last second Hook was standing. The other bull was lunging as I snapped this, Hook lost his footing and they both almost crashed right into me. Anchorage Alaska.
  • M-2016.10.1#211. "Hook" heading away from the area for downtown Anchorage.
  • M-2016.10.1#235. The bull called "Hook" and my friend Ryan Miller. Back to the beginning of this day when I intersected Hook and Ryan, he was trailing Hook. Most of the day after that knowing this animal as well as he did he anticipated and knew where Hook was going the entire time and ran parallel or ahead of hook the whole day. It wasn't until here that I discovered my autofocus accidently got turned off and got it going again. These were the only clear shots of the day for me but what an incredible time it was getting to be a small part of this event. Anchorage Alaska. See Ryan Miller's Explore Alaska Photography site for the most amazing images of Hook and spectacular Wild Sheep.
  • M-2016.10.1#242. Ryan leading Hook into the forest on the rest of his journey down the coast. For some really amazing images of Hook and many other moose and spectacular Wild Sheep images, look at Ryan Miller's Explore Alaska Photography Site. Anchorage Alaska.
  • M-2017.9.2#258. The bull on the left showed up in 2011. He was probably 8 or more years old then. He had unusual & unique antlers over 60 inches. He came every year after that, showing up bigger each year in all dimensions. This was his final year, very heavy, high 70 inches wide with big full palms and palmated brows. He was certainly worthy of being called the Lord of the Kingdom this year. Denali Park Alaska. I was moveing from Alaska and on the drive to Arizona when I got to shoot these images. Nobody has seen this bull again since 2017. I was afraid it was his last year.
  • M-lt-2005.10.17A bull moose I was familiar with for a number of years. The next image is the same bull two years later. Anchorage Alaska. #1017.0099.
