  • BEAR, GRIZZLY-1980's#36.4. Back in the early days of the Alyeska Pipeline Construction Grizzly bears learned all the workers had lunches in the cabs of their trucks and would pop all the wind shields out and ruin them. Alyeska made it a law they had to be in the locked tool boxes, and the workers themselves would leave the doors open so they didn't break the windows. This bear just wanted to go for a ride. This 4x6 Photo was given to me by an Alyeska engineer friend of mine Allen Richie.
  • BEAR, GRIZZLY-1983.8.4#39.2. A North Slope Coastal Grizzly Bear. My equipment at this time was kind of primitive. All analog manual focus and exposure. I found this bear digging roots along the Sagavanirktok River on the Coastal Plain close to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.
  • Bear, Grizzly-1983.9#10.3. This and the next 5 images are certainly not anything great photographically. But it was the first time I got to follow an interior grizzly for about 6 hour's. It was pretty intense trying to get ahead so he would come past me, but not get him annoyed. It ended with a huge blunder that my friends had great fun with. Highway Pass in the back of Denali Park, Alaska. Toggle ahead 5 more images.

  • Bear, GRIZZLY-1983.9#50.4. I ran out of film just as this bear got in the best situation I had him in all day. I knew I had 1 more roll of faster speed film that I shot the night before and took out in the mourning. With the bear getting closer I had to change it under my jacket end ratchet it forward past the photos I had already exposed. Well, he kept coming and looking at me so I had to start shooting. This would have been the best photo I got all day if I hadn't double exposed the moon rising in his liver. Highway Pass, Denali Park, Alaska.

  • BEAR, GRIZZLY-1984.9#100.8. What a day shooting Grizzlies digging Ground Squirrels. And to make it even better Guy J. and I got to spend time with Mishio Hoshino. In his coffee table book on Grizzlies are many of the same images as mine. Stoney Hill area, Denali Park, Alaska.

  • BEAR, GRIZZLY-2008.8.24#078.b6. A bear I encountered quite a few times in Denali Park. I never pursued this bear, as his reaction was always what you see here. He was feeding on Soapberries in the 11 Mile Drainage, Denali Park Alaska.
  • BEAR, GRIZZLY-2008.8.24#078.b7. A bear I encountered quite a few times in Denali Park. I never pursued this bear, one quick photo and I would back off. Every time he saw me his reaction is just what you see here. He never made a hard charge, but I didn't trust him. I called him scruffy, as his hair always looked unkept. I interrupted him feeding on soap berries this day. Ten mile drainage, Denali Park, Alaska.
