  • 62. ENCHANTER'S NIGHTSHADE (Circaea alpina) 2010.7.11#010.1. A plant I had posted at the very end of the Alaska Flora for a long time as an unknown asking for help on an ID. I finally got a response from Gyrd Harstad, a helpful person in Kvaefjord, Norway last night identifying it for me. I found it near Thunderbird Falls in Chugiak Alaska. It was the only one I have ever seen.

  • A rare Senita Cactus (Lyphocereus schottii) 2022.3.15#6743.3. The odd contrail is probably from a surveillance aircraft as this Cactus is less then a hundred yards from the Mexican Border. Organ Pipe Cactus Nat. Mon. in Arizona.

  • Senita Cactus (Lophocereus schottii) The tallest stem in the center shows the bristle like weak hairy spines on a mature plant. This area is the only place the rare Senita Cactus grows in the wild in the US. 2022.3.15#6757.3.   • COVILLE BARREL (Ferrocactus emoryi ssp. covillei) 2022.3.15#8302.2. A young plant that is showing the distinctive spiny cage surrounding it. One of the more uncommon species. Organ Pipe Cactus Nat. Mon., Arizona.
  • Ore rock from the Franklin mine in New Jersey. #0310b4. The orange short wave fluorescence is from an uncommon mineral called Bustamite. The bright green short wave fluorescence is from Willemite. The black non fluorescing crystals in the Bustamite are Franklinite, the ore mineral for which the mine is named.
