  • A Brown Bear sow that had a couple of cubs. 1997.7#25.3. She was snorkeling for salmon in the Pink Salmon hole below the parking lot when I looked over the bank. She then rushed out of the river and came right up to the bottom of the bank. When she dropped down and seemed to be headed for the river I slowly started down the staircase built by the Forest Service to get a better view point. She wheeled around and came half way up the staircase. I decided to go to a different area on the river. Pink Salmon Hole and Parking area on the Russian River. Kenai Peninsula Alaska. No way to know for sure but I always wondered if she may have been the bear that mauled Dan Bigley a few years later. She was by far the largest sow and most aggressive scary bear I ever encountered on Russian River.
