Eastern Chipmunk. 2012.5.7#259. A one-eyed individual rests on an unusual pile of boulders that are Olivine Diabase. The Diabase formed deep in the earth during the early Jurassic period. Unusual circumstances uplifted the Olivine & Pyroxene sills to the surface during the Pleistocene Epoch. Extreme freezing conditions broke the sills into jumbled piles and fields of "Ringing Rocks". Bucks County PA is one of only three areas in the Northeast US these lithiophonic "Ringing Rocks" occur.
