Cochise was probably a greater warrior but actually surrendered before Geronimo and died on a small reservation in Arizona before Geronimo was tricked into surrendering. Both Geronimo and Cochise were the two greatest leaders of the Chiricahua Apache Nations. Many Matate's and Mano's that would never be used again were incorporated in the construction of this pillar. Near Apache, the closest place to the area of Skeleton Canyon where the surrender actually took place. Cochise County Arizona.
