AK-SPn-2001.6.20#6.3. The Swanberg Dredge. Mile marker 1 on the Nome to Council road. Also known as the Johnson-Pohl Dredge. Built in San Francisco CA. Walter Johnson received it in 1946 and immediately started dredging for gold .He couldn't recover enough gold to make his payments. The Nome bank seized the dredge a year later. In 1963 the Nat. Bank of Fairbanks bought it from the City of Nome. In 1966 one of their board members Nelson Swanberg bought it hoping to turn it into a tourist attraction. It still sits one mile east of Nome on the Nome to Council road. Seward Peninsula Alaska. It has been a roost for Ravens ever since.
